Missionaries know that they will be in a place for a set amount of time. It will never totally be home since it is different from where they grew up. Given that they have a short amount of time to work, they must decide which activities are important.
The goal for the missionary must be the same goal of Jesus and his disciples: listening to God and obeying his voice. Jesus modeled this for his followers and we must model these tasks for future believers as well. Faith is caught as much as it is taught, and people will teach others in the way that they were taught. Striving for obedient ears and hearts in the Togolese, and ourselves, must be the first goal of the missionary.
Next we will explore how missionaries can teach Jesus rather than just their cultural values.
